Born in Montgomery, Alabama, reared in Prattville, graduating in 1971.  Entered U.S. Army in 1972 and served 20 years in Armored and Cavalry units in the U.S. and in Europe.  Worked in a civilian capacity for the Alabama National Guard as Museum Director until 2004.  Married over 30 years to Mitzi Morrison. One son, Stuart F. Morrison, a graduate of the Oxford City School System, graduate of Jacksonville State University, Masters from UAB and coach in the Shelby County School System.  Part-time gentleman farmer, member of Grace Baptist Church, adjutant of Rambo's 1st Confederate Brigade and command Federal or Confederate troops at reenactment events around the southeast.
