Bio

Somers currently teaches English 10 Advanced and English 12 Advanced. He also is an assistant girls basketball coach.

He and his wife Amy have been married 11 years. They have three sons in the . All three sons attend school in Oxford City Schools. Before moving to Oxford from Mobile in December 2013, they had previously lived in Pensacola, Florida; Gulfport, Mississippi; and Weaver, Alabama. It was their stint in Weaver that impacted Somers (an Indiana native) and Amy (a Florida native) to decide they'd eventually make Calhoun County their home.

Beyond his devoted academic interests in literature and writing, he also enjoys learning more about instructional design, rhetoric, linguistics, and technology. He likes getting to expore his technological interests through all the tools by which Oxford City Schools supplements its instruction (i.e., MacBooks, Blackboard, online textbooks, etc.). One of his latest projects is beginning a class blog.

Outside of the classroom, Somers and his wife are members of the Jacksonville Church of Christ. They spend much of their time watching their sons play baseball or basketball. Somers's hobbies include watching OHS athletic events and performances, professional and college football and basketball (especially the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, the Hoosiers and Boilermakers, and USA Jaguars), playing basketball, and running.
